Become an Assistant Lighthouse Keeper!

Lighthouse enthusiasts can volunteer with the Pointe Aux Barques Lighthouse Maritime Museum to serve as an assistant lighthouse keeper and stay in the assistant keeper’s house built in 1908!
Groups of two to four can sign up now to stay for a week in the house and volunteer their time greeting visitors, offering tours of the lighthouse and helping in the museum. Originally built in 1847 and then rebuilt a decade later, the historic lighthouse is the oldest in Michigan and remains active today, controlled remotely by the U.S. Coast Guard, reports the Huron Daily Tribune.
Situated in Michigan on Lake Huron, Pointe Aux Barques offers incredible views and the Lighthouse Assistant Keeper Program is an unparalleled opportunity to learn about and experience the lighthouse up close. The cost for the stay is $150 per week plus volunteer services, with a one week minimum stay required. The program is available late May through September. Visit pabmm.org/asst-keepers-program to learn more, or to sign up.
