A New Mystic Man

A New Mystic Man

A few years ago, marine industry veteran Bill Day retired from the powerboat sales business he established in Frankfort, Ky. Called Day’s Boat Sales, the dealership carried several brands including Fountain Powerboats. A betting man might have wagered that Day would stick with a Fountain for his personal boat.

But much as he appreciated the Fountain line, he wanted to try something different. So Day and his wife, Tammie, are having Mystic Powerboats build an M3800 center console for them.

Day (left) said he is delighted to be involved in a project with Mystic Powerboats founder/owner John Cosker.

“This boat is a ‘pinnacle point’ in my boating career,” Day explained. “It’s a collaboration between myself and Mystic, and it’s my retirement present to me and Tammy to enjoy for a bit this winter in Florida.

“I love the conceptual aspects of building boats as much as actually using them,” he continued. “Putting paint schemes, upholstery colors, textures and power packages together just makes me happy. I love creating something so beautiful and intriguing that someone just has to buy it from me for themselves to enjoy. Before I retired, I had done it with other brands including Fountain, Baja and Glasstream and simply loved the process.”

To say Day is going all in on the 42-footer, which will be equipped with color-matched Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines, would badly understate things. Mystic paint-man Doug Harrell is dressing the center console in a $55,000 paintjob featuring colors including “Bentley Peacock Blue, Lexus Celestial Silver with Corvette Riptide Blue and carbon fiber graphics over a black bottom,” Day said.

“It’s going to be epic,” he added.

Day is going all out with his 38-footer from Mystic the DeLand, Fla., company.

Amenities will include an upgraded cabin with a bunk and table, two row of five-passenger bolsters, dual 22-inch Garmin GPS units, a Seakeeper gyroscopic stabilization system, an $11,000 LED lighting system, “triple-thick” GatorStep decking and more. Day will haul the boat on a custom-welded EZ-Loader trailer with custom alloy wheels, strobe lights, dual spares and tool boxes and a bow-ladder for access to the boat.

“The end-game is for me to sell the boat next year and start another one,” Day revealed. “Going forward, John Cosker and the Mystic team to be the perfect place for me to continue to bring my ideas to reality with a company that takes enormous pride in their finished product and their reputation.
