Racing: Lake of the Ozarks OPA Race Changes Name And Venue
–>
As first reported by LakeExpo.com, the organizers of the Offshore Powerboat Association-sanctioned race at Missouri’s Lake of the Ozarks announced that they are renaming the Lake Race the LOTO Powerfest. Along with the name change, the organizing team decided to leave its former Bagnell Dam location.

According to LOTO Powerfest committee president Jeff Dorhauer, the decision to move the fan-favorite race seven miles up the lake was an easy one thanks to the two super-accommodating locations at the 7 Mile Marker—Camden on the Lake Resort and Shady Gators.
“We’re excited to let people know that the race known simply as Lake Race will now become LOTO Powerfest,” Dorhauer told speedonthewater.com. “This new branding will also bring us to a familiar location at the 7mm in front of Shady Gators and Camden on the Lake. This move allows the event a more suitable location for racing both in spectator viewing and crane access to the water. What has not changed is the Board of Directors’ goal to provide a quality event for both the race teams and spectators.”
Dorhauer, who is joined on the board by vice president Tom Abbott, executive director Christy Janssen and four other members, including Ryan Gattemeier, Jan Labonte Shanon, Todd Bohart and Jeremy Gorham, said he’s excited about returning to the racecourse situated between the five- and nine-mile marks.
The spectator friendly course is the same one that was used between 2007 and 2009 when the Offshore Super Series hosted a race at the lake and the same one Lake Race, which was started in 2013, returned to for one year in 2019. The race was cancelled in 2020 but returned to its original location at Bagnell Dam for 2021 and 2022.
The “new” LOTO Powerfest is scheduled for June 1–3, 2023. Dorhauer said sponsorship opportunities are available and anyone interested can contact Janssen for more information.
