Reader Submission: Lynn Stateham from North Carolina

Eastern North Carolina is packed with beautiful and protected anchorages, and one of our favorites is Cedar Creek at mile 187 on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.  In 2009 we spent three peaceful days there, on our Prout catamaran Sunspot Baby while the remnants of Hurricane Ida poured buckets of rain and the winds howled offshore. The boat was loaded and ready to depart for another 6-month Bahamas cruise. My husband George and I were ready to cast off so why wait?  In Cedar Creek we had a safe haven to hang out until the weather cleared. We read, played games, ate like royalty, and enjoyed life on the hook.

Now our long-distance cruising days are over, and Cedar Creek is a good choice for a night or two, then jumping down to South River, across the Neuse to Oriental, or down the ICW to Beaufort. Our second Sunspot Baby is a 30 ft. Manship hardtop pilot, with more than adequate amenities and distinctive windows. I took this sunset photo from the helm after another good day on the water.
