DCB Delivers Stunning Open-Bow M37R to Randal Walker of South Carolina
DCB Performance Boats of El Cajon, CA, has just delivered an open-bow version of its popular M37R catamaran to first-time customer Randal Walker of South Carolina. The boat is powered by twin Mercury Racing 450R outboards.
East Coast native Walker, who has owned a variety of go-fast boats built by West Coast builders, says he jumped ship to DCB after seeing several of their luxurious catamarans on his local Lake Hartwell. “A couple of years ago, at the Hartwell Lake Charity Run, a gentleman had a DCB with the built-in staircase going up the back seats to the transom, and I really liked the look of that,” he says. “Now there’s about seven other DCBs on the lake, and their reputation is amazing—everybody says so many great things about them. I remember when DCB sponsored the poker run, and they sent a cooler and some T-shirts to be auctioned off. And although I didn’t win, I did bid $1,350 on it, because I just knew I was going to get one eventually.”
Walker took delivery of his M37R on Friday, and is delighted by his new ride. “I absolutely love it,” he says. “Every detail is just perfect—even the storage compartments are incredible. The open bow up front has a hard cover, and the bow section is very roomy, because I wanted to haul more than six people. I’ve got one huge Garmin screen in the center of the dash, and with two additional screens for the driver and passenger. And there’s a great deal of really cool LED lighting.” He says his favorite things about the boat are the fit and finish, the immaculate interior, and the colors. “My little boy’s favorite color is teal, so we incorporated the teal with gray and white.” While the M37R was being built, he began construction on a climate-controlled 50’x99′ red-iron steel building to store it in. “Then I painted the inside of the building to match the boat.”
Since taking delivery, he says he’s been hosting friends and family members, including small kids, so there’s been no chance to take it wide open just yet. “Tony Chiaramonte at DCB got it to 122 mph when he tested it with 34″ props. I ordered a set of 36″ props, so I’m hoping to hit 130 mph.”
Working with DCB and Chiaramonte, he says, was a singular delight. “It was the best experience I’ve ever had building a boat. Tony was constantly sending me photos of the build process, showing me what they were doing and explaining each step to me. The communication between us was incredible.”
Walker is the owner of Gallery of Homes, a provider of high-quality modular, manufactured, and site-built homes. In addition to having a love of boats, he is also a car collector, having amassed a couple of dozen automobiles—including newer models (2020 Ferrari Tributo, 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S, 2020 Mercedes G63) and older ones (1967 Corvette, 1969 Camaro Z28), etc. As for future acquisitions, he says he is already dreaming of the day he upgrades to DCB’s M44.
