With the second-year MTI Owners Fun Run to the Bahamas kicking off tomorrow, Haulover Marine Center—or MTI East if you prefer—of North Miami is already buzzing with boat-preparation and launching activity. The six-day event has 14 MTI center-console owners and 102 passenger signed up for a Bahamian adventure, and the fleet is scheduled to depart for the Atlantis Bahamas Resort on Paradise Island tomorrow morning.

The event has more than doubled in size since its 2021 debut.

“The last time we did it we had six boats,” said Taylor Scism, the Wentzville, Mo., high-performance center console and catamaran company’s director of client relations. “It’s all center consoles because it’s quite an open-ocean trek getting over—it’s about the same as Haulover to Key West.”

Once the fleet is settled at its Atlantis home-base, the adventure begins. The group will take two trips to the Exumas, said Scism, and return to its home-base each day.

On Sunday, the fleet will depart the Atlantis for Bimini for a two-night stay before returning to Florida Tuesday morning.

“With all the day trips and just getting there, we end up doing quite a lot of boating,” said Scism. “It’s definitely a challenging event to organize as far as the paperwork goes because we’re traveling to another country, but it’s worth it for our MTI family of customers.”

Among the MTI owners heading out on tomorrow’s Bahama trek are Todd and Debbie Campbell, who own a V-57 center console. Though the South Carolina couple is up for an adventure, they know they’ll have support if anything goes wrong.

“It’s all about the camaraderie among MTI customers,” Campbell explained. “I can go over there and know somebody has my back—all I have to do is raise my hand and five people will come help me. And it’s not about money, it’s about friendship and family.”
