Event Coverage: Scenes From The Lake Race Street Party

A fleet of offshore raceboats and more on the Bagnell Dam Strip during yesterday’s Lake Race Street Party set the tone for today’s action on the Lake of the Ozarks. In town to shoot the Central Missouri event for speedonthewater.com, photographer Jeff Helmkamp strolled the strip in the early evening and grabbed a few images.
From New Zealand to Missouri, the Pro Floors Racing team continues its stateside return-tour today at the Lake Race. The Super Cat-class team finished second at the event in 2019. Photos by Jeff Helmkamp copyright Helmkamp Photos.
“The crowd was larger than I ever remember it being,” he said. “It was lively.”
Myrick Coil of the American Power Boat Association/Union Internationale Motonautique world champion Super Stock-class, Lake of the Ozarks-based Performance Boat Center team, agreed.

“The turnout and displays were good, not like turnout for the Shootout On The Strip exhibit during the (Lake of the Ozarks) Shootout, but good—and the weather was nice,” he said. “Some sections of the strip were little more congested with people than others, but we felt it was a good night.”
Today’s races are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. and will be broadcast via livestream on the News/Talk KRMS radio website.
Speedonthewater.com co-publisher Jason Johnson and contributing editor Eric Colby are teaming up for remote coverage of the event. Look for a complete story on the website this evening.
The Lake Race is the second event of the eight-race American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, which kicked off last month in Cocoa Beach, Fla.
