Image Of The Week: Santa Beaches It
Just for fun, let’s say you still believe in Santa Claus. Do you think for one moment that after a 24-hour work-trip in an underpowered, open-cockpit aircraft that he would head back to the North Pole to snuggle with Mrs. Claus, who’s probably still ticked off from once again being left home alone on Christmas Eve?
Some 13 years ago, photographer Jay Nichols spied a Santa escaping winter on Fort Myers Beach.
No way. He’d hit the beach. He’d head straight for Southwest Florida, which can be chilly at night but is most often lovely during the day.
Meanwhile, back in the real world there is no Santa Claus. Still, more than a few grown men dress up like him around the holidays. And in December 2012 when speedonthewater.com was just three years old, photographer Jay Nichols sent speedonthewater.com’s Jason Johnson and I an image of a Santa-dude on Fort Myers Beach.
We loved the photo then and we love it now. And so we’ve brought it back.
To all of you, your families and your friends, Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah, which begins today. May you be filled with joy and love this holiday season. You probably don’t have your toes in the sand, much less stuffed into a pair of stiff black Santa boots.
But don’t let that stop you from enjoying this day.
