McLaren Engineering And Honda Marine Look For A Winning Formula With New 300-HP Outboard

You know the McLaren and Honda names from any number of big-time motorsports endeavors. Now, a collaboration between McLaren Engineering—the research-and-design division of Linamar Corporation—and Honda Marine will lead to the first McLaren Performance M300 outboard engine, “a performance-inspired marine outboard that delivers enhanced top-end power, premium quality, outstanding reliability and durability.”

The McLaren Performance M300 outboard is based on the existing Honda BF250 marine platform, a proven Honda 3.6-liter V-6 engine that integrates Honda, durability, quality and reliability and performance-leading technologies.” Advanced features include programmed fuel injection, dual -channel, indirect-air-circuit induction and two-pass cooling system for long-term durability.

The first product of the alliance between the two companies is designed for powerboats starting at 24 feet long. But if it succeeds in the marketplace, you can bet it won’t be the last, though the companies won’t announce additional future plans until early 2025. Still, there’s cause for optimism about future and perhaps more potent outboards from the pairing.

“Our collaboration with McLaren Engineering to enhance marine engine technology, coupled with the recent introduction of our new BF350 marine engine, illustrate our next-level strategy and how we intend to move forward,” said Daniel Sherlock, director, Honda Marine Division. “Honda Marine is transforming, and our mission is to be a marine mobility leader.” Stay tuned for future updates, because this story—like the companies involved—is hot.
