Great Lakes Grand Prix Going With Race World Offshore Next Season

The XINSURANCE Great Lakes Grand Prix event in Michigan City, Ind., will be a Race World Offshore-produced event starting next season. The switch to Race World Offshore paves the way for the 16th annual Great Lakes Grand Prix to be part of the 2025 American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series, as the Key West, Fla.-based outfit is an APBA-member organization.

The event was formerly run under the Offshore Powerboat Association, which currently is not an APBA member-organization. Such membership is a require for APBA event-sanctions.

The news was announced today in a press release from the event organizers.

“This is a huge step forward for Michigan City, not only from an industry standpoint but this also adds great value for our many visitors and race fans,” said Jack Arnett, the chief executive officer of the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau, in the release. “This puts Michigan City and LaPorte County on the map, positioning our site to be a leading destination in the offshore racing industry.”

Race Word Offshore currently is prepping for its signature event, the Key West Offshore World Championships set for November 3-10. The founder of the organization, Larry Bleil said that he and his team “are excited to be associated with the 16th annual XINSURANCE Great Lakes Grand Prix” in the release.

“Michigan City is a marquee powerboat race site in the United States and XINSURANCE is a great partner,” Bleil continued. “All the teams look forward to being at Michigan City, and we are looking forward to putting on a great race.”

Added Arnett, “This event is a major contributor to our local economy. The 2024 XINSURANCE Great Lakes Grand Prix brought in over $23.6 million dollars to our community.”
