Fort Myers Offshore Pivots To Junkanoo Lunch-Spot For Season-Opener
On name alone, the Junkanoo Below Deck restaurant in Fort Myers Beach, Fla., is intriguing enough for a visit. Plus, it replaced the formerly popular Bayfront Bistro. As it happens, the back-bay venue has turned out to be a bit of a life-saver for the Fort Myers Offshore group, which had to change destinations for next Saturday’s 2024/2025 season-opening lunch run thanks to Hurricane Milton. The original plan had the group going to Miller’s Dockside restaurant on Boca Grande, which currently is inaccessible according to Tim Hill, the president of the nonprofit scholarship fundraising club.

“Junkanoo has stepped up after Hurricane Milton and will host us at their outdoor bar-and-patio area right at the docks,” said Hill. “After lunch we are planning a raft-up party in Kinzie Cove—where Jasper’s Bait Shack used to be anchored—at the mouth of the river.”
With the venue swap just one week before the event, Hill and company are understandably tight on time. So he is asking for Fort Myers Offshore members to sign-up online in a different way than the club’s normal website-based process.
“We do not have time to update the website for registration so a simple comment to the effect of if you’re going and your estimated crew number on our Facebook event page will do. Or can email that information to [email protected]. That will help ensure that the restaurant has food for all attendees,” explained.
The Saturday, October 19, run will start promptly at 11 a.m. from the Sanibel Island Bridge.
As do all Fort Myers Offshore events, next Saturday’s lunch will start on the south side of the Sanibel Island Bridge. Departure time is 11 a.m.—sharp.
Added Hill, “If you have not yet renewed your membership for 2025, now would be a good time to do so.”
