Image Of The Week: Red, White And Blue At Skaterfest

Despite that Californian Dale Rayzor and Texan Ross Ramsey are proud Americans, they weren’t going for a show of patriotism when they ran their blue and red catamarans alongside one another during last Saturday’s RP Elite Motors & Marine-produced Skaterfest lunch run on Lake Texoma in Oklahoma. They were just posing, so to speak, for photographer Pete Boden as he captured the blue 368 and red 388 cats from Skater Powerboats running in tight formation.

Call it a happy accident—and one that produced a patriotic image of two handcrafted, American-made products in action. That both boats came from the brilliant mind and creative hands of Skater Powerboats founder Peter Hledin, a Canadian immigrant who started his now-legendary catamaran brand 50 years ago in America, makes the story behind the image that much better.

Rayzor, a multi-time Skater owner and brand-lunatic who keeps his 36-footer at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, is back at his home in Northern California. Unlike his Golden State friend, Ramsey, who owns Skater dealer RP Elite Motors & Marine in Springtown, Texas, didn’t have to travel quite as far to make it home.

Both will return to Skaterfest next year to fly the flag. Long may it wave.
