Harbor Springs Named Best Small Lake Town In The U.S. By Travel + Leisure

Harbor Springs, Michigan, was named the best small lake town in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure as part of the magazine’s America’s Best Small Towns 2024 featured list. The selection was driven by Harbor Springs’ picturesque location and natural beauty, as well as it’s quaint, small-town charm.

“What incredible acknowledgment for our area,” says Jim Powell, executive director of the Petoskey Area Visitors Bureau. “The Harbor Springs community is steeped in rich history, storied hospitality and its location on the shores of Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay is unparalleled. We are thrilled to  see this beautiful town honored.” 

The small town boasts a host of locally owned businesses and restaurants, and offers a selection of scenic beaches and drives to explore the natural beauty of the area, which sits on Little Traverse Bay, the deepest freshwater harbor on the Great Lakes. Harbor Springs also hosts a range of events throughout the year, including the Holiday Open House in December. Harbor Springs Ice Fest in February, Blessing of the Fleet in June, nationally attended Ugotta Regatta sailboat race in July and the Harbor Springs Festival of the Book in September.
