Doug Wright 39 Carbon Waves And Wheels Edition Hits The Water Ahead Of Shootout Showcase

In less than one week, the Waves and Wheels-sponsored Shoot On The Strip gathering, which is always a highlight of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Central Missouri, is going to be shoulder to shoulder with boating enthusiasts along Bagnell Dam Boulevard. Taking center stage this year amongst the extensive showcase of boats, tow rigs, support vehicles, exotic cars and more, are going to be two new Doug Wright Powerboats 39 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition catamarans, the first of which hit the water last week and was water-tested again this morning by Waves and Wheels owner Justin Wagner.

Wagner, who said he is keeping 39 Carbon No. 2 to be a company demo boat, was as enthusiastic as ever heading into Shootout week after getting a chance to run the twin Mercury Racing 500R-powered 39-footer on Thursday. Clearly he is eager to show off the boat at the Shootout On The Strip and to hand the keys over to owner Brian Blount, who is coming to Lake of the Ozarks from Oregon to take delivery the week after the lake’s most popular event.

“I know Brian is really excited about this boat; he’s going to love it, it’s incredible,” said Wagner, who added that he is going to test the boat again next week with Florida-based throttleman Ricky Maldonado, who has rigged and raced many Doug Wright cats throughout the years, to get his setup input. “We haven’t stretched it all the way out—we’ve just been breaking it in but man is it a runner. It feels like a 36 on steroids. It’s sporty and it gets after it; I mean it’s a rocket. The 42 Carbon, Dave Burgess’s boat, accelerates really hard with the 500Rs, but this 39 is noticeably harder. And it handles so nice.

“It’s just enjoyable to drive,” he continued. “It eats up the waves and feels so settled. What I like best is how it lays down really nice and flat. I have to tip my hat to my team for how amazing it turned out inside and out, too. The fit and finish is impressive. I can’t wait for people to see it on the street next week.”

The Waves and Wheels team tested the new 39 Carbon earlier today.

Wagner said his team is going to have a full lineup of Doug Wrights on display, including Burgess’ 42-footer, which was featured in a Speedonthewater.com documentary produced by Scrapyard Media earlier this year, and a 36 Carbon in primer ready for a buyer. Along with the two 39-footers, Wagner said Doug Wright is bringing two 450R Factory Stock Montlick Injury Attorneys 38-foot canopied cats for spectators to enjoy with the Waves and Wheels setup that will include a DJ playing music from the company’s PlayCraft pontoon.

The second 39 Carbon Waves and Wheels Edition catamaran is going to be a company demo boat.

“I’m pretty pumped with the progress we’ve made with the Doug Wrights,” said Wagner, who two years ago announced the partnership at the Shootout On The Strip and last year had the 42 Carbon in primer on display before Burgess snatched it up. “Not only can we show off the full line of products, but we can take orders for other boats we have in production, including two more 42s and a 39. Our program is growing as planned. We also have an open house planned from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday at The Boardwalk at Waves and Wheels if anyone wants to come by for lunch and get a closer look at the boats and our facility.”

There’s likely to be some on-land vehicles displayed as well at the open house, which is set for next Friday, August 23, at the marina located at mile marker 26.

Wagner did say he plans to race his demo 39 Carbon in the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, which will be the first time he’s ran down the three-quarter-mile course since he drove an MTI with a customer six years ago.

“It’s a demo boat so what better way to ‘demo it’ than to run it at the Shootout,” Wagner said and laughed. “In all honesty, I’m just excited to have a demo boat. It’s going to stick around the lake until we take it to Key West, Fla., in November for the Florida Powerboat Club poker run.”
