Sequence Of The Week—That’s One Way To Get Your New Sponsor’s Attention
Messy—that’s probably the kindest word to describe this weekend’s Powerboat P1-produced Super Stock and Super Cat starts at the Midwest Challenge in Sheboygan, Wis. The bad news was broken boats, at least in the Super Stock incident. The good news, of course, was no broken bodies.
Also good news? Most racers in both fleets had the good sense and self-control to avoid the social media blame game.

The last race of the weekend belonged to the Super Cat fleet, and not long after the green flag flew this afternoon the SV Offshore/Austin Homes Super Cat owned by Wisconsin’s Vinnie Diorio, who throttles the 39-foot Outerlimits cat alongside driver Matt Jamniczky, was caught at exactly the wrong angle.
Not only was Diorio defending his home-water, the Midwest Challenge was his first with his new backer on board. A wheelie in front of your sponsor is one thing, especially when its name is writ large across both hullsides. But a back loop? Not so much.
Up, up and almost away.
Fortunately, the catamaran came down sunny-side-up.
Asked what happened after the race, Diorio played it cool—another smart move with a new backer on scene. “It got a little tight in turn No. 1,” he said in perhaps the understatement of the week. “No damage to the boat. Nope, all good.”
