DCB Update—New M42R Cat Headed To Lamination, M37R Fleet Headed To Super Cat Fest
With the final coat of release-wax applied to the hull mold, the first DCB Performance Marine M42R Widebody catamaran continues to move closer to its fall-completion target. That’s the word from Johnny Bauer, the Phoenix-based company’s vice president of production.

“Once the latest M37R is out of pre-lamination, the first M42R will fill the booth and its gelcoat graphics will be sprayed into in the mold,” said Bauer, who has shepherded the new-model project since its inception. “All other molds have been prepped and the blowout gelcoat has been applied.
“We still have some straggling small parts showing up, but all part-design has been finished, CNC plugs made and molds either completed or in process,” he continued. “It’s like herding cats but we’re getting there. We’re still on track to have hull No. 1 on the water by fall.”
The DCB production floor is humming with activity.
For precise fitment of the 42-footer’s windshield, the DCB team pulled what Bauer described as a “partial part” from the deck mold for the windshield supplier.
“I am pretty excited for our customers to see the ergonomic changes we made, based on lessons learned from the M37R to the M42R,” he said. “The cockpit itself is quite a bit longer.”

For Bauer, next month’s Super Cat Fest at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri will be his first as a member of the DCB team. The company goes all out for the annual event, and Bauer is eager to be there to help represent the brand.
“We’re looking forward to having seven or eight M37Rs at Super Cat Fest,” he said. “Trophy truck racer Bryce Menzies new build will be there, as will and Joe Juliano’s. Those are the newest 37-footers. Both will be powered by Mercury Racing 500R outboards like Mad Props, which is in the third newest M37R.
“And let’s not forget Cowboy & Indian, the first M37R with 500Rs, which will also be there representing the DCB brand,” he added.
