Keep It Kleen With Tim Kowalski: Simply Amazing
An energetic and generous performance boater, Bio-Kleen Products founder Tim Kowalski is well known around the country for his upbeat attitude and expansive knowledge when it comes to environmentally friendly cleaning products. A lot that has to do with his highly regarded products focused on the marine, RV and auto industry as well as his dedication to getting out of from behind his desk and chemistry sets at Bio-Kleen’s Kalamazoo, Mich., facility and traveling to events across the country, including boat, RV and snowmobile shows, not to mention the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout—the popular event in Central Missouri that elected Kowalski into its Hall of Fame in 2020.
In this first edition of “Keep It Kleen With Tim Kowalski,” we connected with the cleaning expert to share his tips for keeping marine vinyl clean and protected. He added that everything mentioned below and in the video he shared featuring Bio-Kleen’s sales and marketing manager, Tom Orr, can applied to the popular EVA foam flooring being installed by many performance boat builders.
“Amazing Cleaner does a phenomenal job on SeaDek and that type of flooring that we see so often nowadays,” Kowalski explained before diving into the cleaning tips.
“For our first tip, we decided to start simple,” he added. “Amazing Cleaner and Amazing Armor are two of our most popular products for one very good reason; they work! Amazing Cleaner is specifically designed to tackle the dirt, mold and mildew that adheres to marine vinyl without harming the vinyl itself or the threading. Amazing Armor is a non-greasy conditioner fortified with 70 SPF—the highest protection in the industry—that will keep your vinyl, leather, plastic, and rubber parts supple and shiny.”
Step by step, Kowalski explained how to keep your material as clean as possible.
Step 1: Take your bottle of Amazing Cleaner (which comes in 16-ounce, 32-ounce, 1-gallon and 5-gallon containers) and spray product directly onto affected boat seats.
Step 2: Dip a soft bristle brush into cold water and scrub the seats in a circular motion. Amazing Cleaner will foam up and begin lifting surface dirt, as well as set-in stains.
Step 3: Dip clean cloth into cold bucket of water then wring out. Wipe seats clean with that damp cloth. If you still see mold and mildew spots, simple reapply and allow for longer dwell time before repeating Steps 1 and 2. Note: After cleaning with Amazing Cleaner, it is recommended to allow boat seats to dry in direct sunlight to continue breaking down mold and mildew.
Step 4: Now that you’ve cleaned your boat seats, you’ll want to protect them. Spray Amazing Armor into a clean, lint-free cloth or applicator. This helps to avoid overspray; a little goes a long way.
Step 5: Wipe cloth or applicator onto the clean, dry seats and watch as it leaves behind a shiny, protected finish. The difference will be night and day.
Step 6: Reapply Amazing Armor regularly to keep seats protected and looking brand new.
And there you have it, six simple steps for keeping your vinyl boat seats clean and protected thanks to Mr. Kleen himself. As Kowalski likes to explain, beyond this one application, you will find that both products have a wide range of uses. Amazing Cleaner can clean countertops, patio furniture, leather boots and remove tough stains from laundry or carpet. Amazing Armor will shine up your tires, leather boots, gloves and jackets, and keep the sun-bleached plastic pieces on your vehicles looking rich and dark.
“As always, we are available to provide technical support regarding any of our products and we love a challenge,” said Kowalski, who founded Bio-Kleen in 1987. “Contact us via our website or call us at 800.240.5536 with your toughest cleaning jobs and we will undoubtedly have the product and knowledge to get it clean.
“Part of what keeps me going is the affirmation we continue to receive, especially after people have tried other products that haven’t worked,” he added. “Then they use Bio-Kleen and the product works—and it works safely without destroying their equipment.”
