Mom Ain’t Happy Team Super Stock-Class To Debut In Cocoa Beach
For the record, the “Mom” in the new Super Stock-class raceboat Mom Ain’t Happy and coming to compete this weekend in Cocoa Beach, Fla., isn’t limited to a particular mother—or even one boat. Scott Blumberg, the O’Fallon, Mo.-based owner of the new team running the former 32-foot Doug Wright Team Allen Lawncare and Landscaping Doug Wright raceboat, explained that his 32-foot Doug Wright pleasure-catamaran also had the same name.

“My mom, Maureen, was the original mom in the first Mom Ain’t Happy,” said Blumberg, who will share the cockpit with fellow Super Stock-class rookie Ryan Williams, then chuckled. “Then there is my wife, Ashton, and, of course, my mother-in-law, Nancy.”
A longtime go-fast pleasure-boat owner, Blumberg decided he wanted to go Super Stock-class racing this season before the 2023 Race World Offshore World Championships in Key West, Fla. He knew Team Allen Lawncare and Landscaping owner Bill Allen from their time at the Lake of the Ozarks, and the two gentlemen reached a deal for Blumberg to buy the team’s 32-foot Doug Wright catamaran after Key West
But thanks to a racing mishap, the 32-footer left Key West with a hole punched in one of its hullsides. So from there it went directly to Doug Wright Powerboats in Melbourne, Fla., for fiberglass repair. Once the work was completed, the boat was hauled to Andy Sanders—a former rigger for Performance Boat Center in Osage Beach, Mo.—at Go Fast Boat Service in Kaiser, Mo., near the Lake of the Ozarks.
Sanders handled rigging the cat with its new Mercury Racing 300R outboard engines.
“Andy also rigged my 32-foot Doug Wright pleasure-cat with (six-cylinder) 400Rs when he was at Performance Boat Center and did an incredible job,” said Blumberg. “I decided to sell it last year, but, man, that boat was fast.
“Performance Boat Center built me one bad-ass boat,” he added. “I sold it to a guy at (New Hampshire’s) Lake Winnipesaukee.”
Sanders completed the project approximately 30 days ago, according to Blumberg, who has a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks. Another experienced performance-boat owner, Williams is his next door neighbor.
Dressed in its new graphics, the boat formerly ran as Team Allen Lawncare and Landscaping.
“I talked him into being my driver over a couple of beers,” Blumberg said, then laughed. “He’s been around boats all his life.”
The Mom Ain’t Happy team, which includes crew chief Dane Fitzpatrick, departs for Cocoa Beach today.
From what he’s seen so far from his fellow owners in the Super Cat ranks, Blumberg, whose offshore racing experience is limited to a pair of Bracket 200-class contests, is delighted to be part of the class. Soon enough he’ll be among his fellow Super Stock-class competitors in person. The Mom Ain’t Happy team, which includes crew chief Dane Fitzpatrick, leaves for Cocoa Beach today.
The Mom Ain’t Happy team is one of 12 Super Stock outfits currently registered for the Powerboat P1-produced Thunder On Cocoa Beach event, which is the second race of the American Power Boat Association Offshore National Championship Series.
“I love this class,” said Blumberg. “I am super-stoked to be part of it. Everybody knows everybody, and everybody seems really down to earth. It’s a close-knit group like that feels like family. That’s what attracted me to it.
“My own family is flying in tomorrow,” he added. “I’m excited for this weekend. I can’t wait. The only thing we didn’t get done for this race was a sticker for the back of the boat.”
The slogan for the sticker? Unhappy Mom’s Club.
