Michigan Maritime Museum to Host History of Boat Building in Michigan

As part of its Working Waterfront series, the Michigan Maritime Museum is hosting Making Waves: A History of Boat Building in Michigan. The lecture, led by author Scott Peters, will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 from 6:30 – 7:30.
This year, museum programming will highlight the many ways people have interacted with the waterfront through commerce and industry. This lecture on boatbuilding focuses on how Michigan emerged as the hub for boatbuilding on the Great Lakes, gathering talented designers, builders and engine makers to build some the best boats ever designed. While Michigan will always be recognized as the automobile capital of the world, the Great Lakes region was instrumental in the development of boat building in America.
The lecture, sponsored by the Nielsen-Wells Grant Fund & Mike and Susan Smith, is free to museum members, and $10 for all others. To learn more, visit michiganmaritimemuseum.org.
