Public Input Sought on Developing Sustainable Ocean Economy
Two federal agencies are seeking public comment through Aug. 28 on development of a national strategy for a sustainable ocean economy.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said the request, put forth in mid-July, comes from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) and the Interagency Ocean Policy Committee (OPC).
Both want public comment on what the goals and outcomes of the national strategy should be and how the federal government can best advance sustainable management of ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and ecosystems of the United States.
A sample of questions that the two federal agencies would like comment on include priorities for sustainable management of the ocean, coasts and Great Lakes at a local, state, tribal, territorial, regional and/or national scale.
They also want comment on what the national vision and high level goals should be for a sustainable ocean economy, and whether the public feels there are gaps in federal knowledge of the ocean, coasts and Great Lakes that need to be addressed to support sustainable ocean management.
